Emergency Preparedness – The recent earthquake has sparked a lot of discussion among families and staff here at Sullivan about how prepared we are for an emergency like an earthquake. Just like you have a plan at home for your family, we have a plan for emergencies here at school.
As a school we run numerous drills throughout the year including fire drills, lockdown and lockout drills (formally code red and code yellow) and earthquake drills. If for any reason we need to leave school grounds for safety reasons, our off-site assembly location is Cambridge Elementary. For your information, our school has been seismically upgraded. In case of an emergency, it is very important that the office has up-to-date contact information to get in touch with you, a relative or a neighbour.
In addition to the drills, each classroom is equipped with an emergency pack containing water, masks, a flashlight and a whistle etc. In conversation with the PAC executive this week we are reviewing these packs to see what needs to be added/replaced. This will be an agenda item at the January PAC meeting on Monday, January 18th at 6:30pm. As always, please contact the school if you have any questions.
