June 2016 Newsletter

It is nice to see so many students (and staff) ride their bikes to school today for the start of the Bike to School Week! Thank you for remembering to send your child to school with a helmet and bike lock. Just a reminder that students are asked to walk their bikes once you reach the school and not ride on school property. There are many prizes that students can win!

Hello parents,

Spirit Night is coming up and we are asking for families to donate new items for the division baskets that we use each year in the silent auction.   Each division has been given a theme, they are as follows:

Div. 1 & 11 – Sports and Outdoors

Div. 2 & 12 – Beach fun and picnic

Div. 3 & 4 – Movie and games night

Div. 5 & 6 – Tea/coffee/chocolate/cookies

Div. 7 & 8 – Gardening

Div. 9 & 10 – Arts and crafts

There will be a box in each class for items to be put in.  Parents and students can purchase items around that theme, or cash and gift cards are appreciated as well for the class theme spirit night basket. Please have your donation in by the Monday, June 6th deadline, the basket will be collected and wrapped for the Silent Auction.

Thank you for your support!

download (2) We know with the nicer weather that students like to stay after school and play. Just a reminder that school supervision ends at 2:48pm. At that time, students that have not been picked up are brought to the office. Students are permitted to stay on the school grounds after the second bell, if there is a parent present.

The staff and I have noticed that there are students playing in the forested area to the south of the school. I am concerned about student safety in this area with things that I have been hearing. If your child wants to play there after school, I ask that you supervise them as we have had some injuries. I also ask that you talk to your child about respect for the environment as we see branches being broken off trees. This year we have some classes visiting the forested area during instructional time to learn about the environment and explore their surroundings. They are taught to be safe and treat the environment with respect. We hope you can encourage this message at home too.
